The reinforcing squadron made up by a 5th rate and petite frigates attempted to block and board the enemy lead ships but the enemy were able to turn just in time, resulting in a hopeless situation for the smaller vessels. The Englishmen won by strike points in turn 7, but it was a close call, with their 5th rate and 3rd rate being sandwiched between 4th rates and a 3rd rate.
