Round 9 The Queen Anne is AGAIN raked in the stern for 2 hits and fatigue from Corvette 5. Sloop 1 uses a seamanship action, yare, and its move to avoid a second ram. It attempts to throw grapples at corvette 1 and fails. The Dutch Corvette 1 shows the Sloop how to board and their expertise inflicts two fatigue on the sloop. The Revenge banks left hoping for a rake on the Dutch flagship but falls short. Still, his crew managed another 4 hits – 2 damage and 1 fatigue on the larger target Sloop 2 gets a partial shot for 1 fatigue on a crit on the Fluyt. Sloop 3 AGAIN fails to shake the objective free of the shoals. Sloop 4 and 5 are denied targets as the Corvettes attempt to flee across the shoals. Corvette 2 attempts to get around the burning wreckage of sloop 2 but is forced to bump it again so as to not hit its own flagship with its stern– still no damage is taken. Despite the leaking/burning carnage, no ships sink. - 275983602 10161959844277846 1430182172451246897 n
Looking at notes/pics afterward, I guess we completely skipped Round 6 and jumped... Round 7 I think the Pirates used a “Reload!” initiative card allowing them to use their Crew actions on cargo grapples. The left sloops trade shots with Corvette 6 each taking a hit or two. Corvette 5 snags an objective and fires on the Queen and misses wildly; Blackbeard’s men return fire and drop multiple crew with musket shots. Sloop 3 scores 3 lucky hits on corvette 4. Sloop 1 and Stede both are denied the crate still hopelessly snagged on the shoals. Sloop 2 snags an objective and combines fire with Stede’s Revenge to put two more damage on Sloop 3. Sloop 1 is raked by Corvette 1 for only 1 damage (its fatigue denying the opportunity for more shots). - 275967661 10161959844607846 1108178764962516863 n
Round 8 was a bloodbath of chaos. The Pirates “Raised the Black,” sending a ripple of fear into Corvette 3 & 4 and among the crew of the Fluyt. The Queen Anne hits Corvette 4 for 4 damage but is itself raked in the stern for 2 damage from Sloop 5. Sloop 1 tries in vain to slow itself but slams into Corvette 1 damaging its own bow in the attempt to turn. Its small arms fire goes wide as it is further raked by Corvette 1. Sloop 2 already surrendered and its hull crippled were out of action and the Dutch claimed its two barrels of beer as their own. Sloop 3 puts two more damage on Corvette 4. Michael de Reuter bellows encouraging orders on the Dutch flagship trying to Rally and get his crew back in the fight once they were free of the shoals. Neither of the out-of-action ships sinks at the end of the round. - battle 3 - 4

After the Dutch used a Fortune token to roll on the scenario's Luck table, a new bundle of cargo is spotted at sea. The Revenge uses its Seamanship Action to slow down and it's Crew Action to grapple the kegs aboard. - 276320104 10161959844447846 5262105119861918222 n

Initial deployment + Rd 1 Several of the cargo bits were randomly deployed in a position favorable to the Dutch. During the setup, the Dutch got “Local Guide” and Pirates got “Superior Position” which let them close on the targets and make up some of the space. I pushed several of the shoals up trying to close off the left side of the board, but later in the game, I probably hurt myself more than my opponent. - battle 3 - 6

An event spawned a "Confused Captain" card. The Dutch tried to take advantage of the Gentleman Pirate’s inexperience and were hoping to cause a series of collisions. (couldn't help but think of "Our Flag Means Death') Apparently learning a thing or two from Teach, Stede not only passed the test, but he and his crew also landed 3 direct hits on Corvette 3 taking it out of the game. - battle 3 - 9

At the end of Round 10, none of the “Out of Action” ships sunk. If Sloop 2 HAD sunk the cargo would have been back in play and the outcome of the game would have been different. Final results: Pirates 4 - Dutch 5 Victory Dutch! We would have gone 1-2 more rounds just to see the final outcome, but there wasn’t time. (We didn't realize Round 6 was skipped till the next day) - Luck of the Arrish

Round 4 Left side Dutch close on their targets and snag one objective from the ocean but are just short of the second. Center two corvettes move towards the center objectives The right side snags a barrel and forms up into an arcing attack line hoping to get ahead of the incoming pirate force and potentially cross the T. The left-side pirates go full speed around the island. After capturing a single objective, the rest head battle sail towards the middle The rightmost crate appears to have been snagged on the shoals as the attempts to grapple it fail. - battle 3 - 10
